The transitional housing and support program is a free and confidential service available to women and their children who are experiencing abuse and require services but do not live in the shelter.
The counselor assists women to develop transitional plans and access community supports. This is to achieve independence and stability in their lives. The transitional counsellor’s primary responsibilities include supportive counselling, housing, outreach and advocacy on behalf of clients.
Ernestine’s has a partnership with Biminaawzogin Regional Aboriginal Women’s Circle (BRAWC) in Orillia and the Aboriginal Women of Georgina Island. BRAWC provides opportunities for Aboriginal women to acquire skills and knowledge, personal empowerment, education and employment. The Aboriginal Women’s Transition Bridging Program at BRAWC works to increase the education and pre-employment skills of aboriginal women. Ernestine’s THSP counsellor currently spends one day a week alternating between BRAWC and Georgina Island.
