Volunteering at Ernestine's Women's Shelter

Volunteers are an essential part of Ernestine's Women's Shelter. Giving your time and dedication to our clients will help bring hope to the lives of countless women and children who look toward Ernestine's as a safe haven.

How you can inspire those around you:

• Program Involvement - work directly with the women and children at the shelter through our Children's Program, Counselling program, etc.
• Fundraising - host a fundraiser or join our fundraising committee - all you need is enthusiasm and commitment and your contributions will go a long way.
• Group or Corporate - get together with friends or co-workers at the shelter and create your own interesting project for the women and children. Past examples include hosting carnivals, cooking dinner at the shelter, holding resume and interview workshops, or even coming in to help sort donations.
• In-house maintenance - our food bank and donations need ongoing support with sorting items and you can also be involved with other duties around the shelter.
• Volunteer Skills - share your specific skills with clients or staff, through workshops, mentoring, or training.
• Projects or Events- share your expertise in helping with a time-limited project, like web design, filming, etc. Become involved with shelter events like the Ernestine's Affair, United Way fundraising, Winter Celebration, etc.
• Administrative Support - share your time to help out with other tasks such as making deliveries, sharing your storage space, or event using your creative skills by helping with website and newsletter design.

At Ernestine's, we are dedicated to our volunteers and supporting them in achieving their goals. We feel that setting your personal goals (long or short term) will help you have a clear understanding of your abilities and outcomes while volunteering with us. We work to find you the perfect volunteer placement, whether you can commit for 1 day, 1 month or 1 year.
